Bed time? No. Bed-ding time, heck yea!

March 19, 2010

I am constantly becoming discontent with my bedding. Literally, yearly. As many of you may know, this can turn into a costly little habit. And it really pisses my mom off. Good thing she’s a traitor and never reads this.

From freshman year to grad school, your bedding needs are constantly changing. Your taste will probably change as well. Therefore, it is obvious that you will be needing a new bed set at some point. This is where I come in.

I have had four different bed sets in as many years. I’m very good at changing my mind- it’s a gift. From my experiences, I have become an expert in seeking out cheap yet fabulous sheets, comforters, and pillow cases. Here is what I’ve learned…

1) Look on main-stream websites and through catalogues first to get an idea of what you want. Write down key words in the description like paisley, quilted, etc. Next, do a Google search of those words along with color and size options.

2) Check places like Target, T.J Maxx, Tuesday Morning, Home Goods, etc. first to avoid paying shipping costs if possible. Kohls also has great stuff, but they’ve gotten a little big for their britches and jacked up their prices.

3) If you have your heart set on a designer brand, or can’t find anything you like on any store websites, go to ebay! I bought a new $500 Pottery Barn bed set for $75 off ebay last year. Score.

4) If you find your dream bedding but still need some extras like throw pillows or a bed skirt, go back to the aforementioned stores. Home Goods and T.J. Maxx often have sets of two pillows for the price of one! (Please, contain your enthusiasm)

5) Wash your bedding before sleeping in it you sicko.
